The industry is categorized as productive, energy-efficient, agricultural and forestry, minerals, tourism, services, and construction industries based on the nature of the industry.
The Industrial Business Act classifies industries on the basis of level as follows:- Cottage Industry: An industry that has fixed assets of up to two lakhs rupees, and consumes energy less than 5 kilowatts.
- Small Scale Industry: An industry that has fixed assets of up to 3 cores.
- Medium Scale Industry: An industry that has fixed assets of 3 to 10 crores.
- Large scale Industry: An industry that has fixed assets over 10 crores.
As per Industrial Enterprises Act, 2076(2020) a person (individual or company) must register industry before operating an industry or business. Cottage or small industries are registered in DCSI Department of Cottage and small industries or any district level office under the department. Registration of medium and large industries shall be made in the department of industries.
